The journal's scope encompasses, but is not limited to, mathematics teaching and learning; mathematics education research and theory; curriculum development and instructional design; mathematics teacher education and professional development; mathematical thinking, reasoning, and competencies; assessment and evaluation; ethnomathematics and culturally responsive mathematics education; educational technology and artificial intelligence in mathematics education; and issues of equity, inclusion, and educational policy. JHM seeks to publish high-quality scholarly work that advances existing knowledge, addresses relevant challenges in mathematics education, and offers insights with potential significance beyond the immediate research setting. Submissions should establish a clear connection to mathematics education, demonstrate methodological and conceptual rigor appropriate to the nature of the study, engage critically with relevant literature, and articulate their contribution to research, policy, or educational practice. Studies situated in specific local or cultural contexts are particularly welcome when they provide substantive insights that inform broader scholarly discussions.

Finally, JHM also serves an international readership and encourages contributions that facilitate dialogue across educational systems, disciplinary perspectives, and cultural contexts. The journal's commitment to scholarly quality is supported by editorial screening and independent peer review. Manuscripts must be written in English and are evaluated according to their originality, relevance, rigor, clarity, and contribution to mathematics education. Publication decisions are based on the academic merit of each submission and the journal's editorial standards.
